"What the heck is a ""trash the dress"" session" , my clients often ask.
Welcome to Poetic Photography's Trash the Dress 101 Session!!
The "Trash the Dress" sessions are relatively new in the wedding world, but are becoming very popular. Although the name itself (TRASH the DRESS) evokes feelings of fear and makes the bride sometimes want to turn and run, you really DON'T have to trash your dress!
I tell my brides that a trash the dress session is simply a photo session of the bride, post wedding, in an environment that she would not normally even think about being in, on the day of her wedding.
In the photo to the left, the Bride CHOSE to get a bit wet in Lake Michigan, others choose to NOT get wet, but really want the "by the water" photos. Another client of mine requested her "trash the dress" session to be in front of a waterfall, no getting wet, just beautiful photos in front of the falls. Others want to get a little more risky...a 2009 bride to be asked me if I could do her session while she sits/rides on a horse. If a client wants the session, but is worried about her dress and wants to stay on the safe side, I usually suggest she bring a friend and a white sheet, that the friend can place on the ground before the bride takes her place..the friend then tucks the sheet under the dress so it can not be seen.
Sometimes brides ask me "but what about my hair?"...well, I look at it this way, the bride is going to have photos of her wedding day, with her hair all "did", why not have the "trash the dress" photos with the hair down, free and flowing in the wind? What a nice contrast to the wedding day photos!
Anywhere you choose, whether you want to be on the safe side with your dress, or get a bit risky, the possibilites are endless! Do a google image search for "trash the dress" and see what you come up with!!!
